Few cars on the market today are as admired as the Ford Mustang. Known for its sleek yet robust design, it’s always guaranteed to turn heads. It’s important to ask whether golf clubs fit in a Mustang.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Coupe can fit two sets of golf clubs, thanks to its 13.5 cubic feet of trunk space. However, note that if you go for the convertible, the space drops to 11.4 cubic feet, which will fit one set comfortably.

So let’s find out more about the cargo specs of the Mustang and just how practical the different iterations are.

Do Golf Clubs Fit in a Mustang Sixth Generation Ford Mustang (2015–Present) Cargo Space?

The trunk space on the Ford Mustang is now as big as it’s ever been. The new, redesigned coupe models have 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space in the trunk. This can easily fit two golf bags, as the company claims.

The problem arises when a push cart is introduced to the equation. Most of the big, bulky kinds won’t fit in the back of the coupe. A good alternative would be one of those lightweight models, which can fit in the Mustang’s trunk.

Conversely, the convertible models have 11.4 cubic ft. of cargo space, which is considerably smaller. However, it’s still possible to fit a set of golf clubs inside with a little maneuvering like what you can do in a Corvette! The drivers and woods need to be placed inside first at an angle, then proceed to place the bag diagonally. Some people say that if the bag isn’t too bulky, the trunk on a convertible can even fit two sets!

Just make sure the trunk closes well, and try to avoid cramming things inside in a hurry so it opens up easily.

Do Golf Clubs Fit in a Mustang Fifth Generation Ford Mustang (2005–2014) Cargo Space?

The fifth generation of the Mustang ran from the model year 2005 which had the smallest trunk capacity of all the models in this generation. At just 12.3 cubic feet, it’s considerably smaller than the current models.

There’s a clear jump in the 2006–2009 models, which have 13.1 cubic feet of cargo space. This is comparable to the 13.5 cubic ft. current trunk space, and it won’t affect the carrying capacity of golf clubs.

The 2010–2014 S197-II design has yet another increase in trunk capacity, now becoming 13.4 cubic feet. This makes it the closest volume to the newest generation, so it can comfortably fit two sets of golf clubs.

As for the convertible models, they’re always smaller in capacity by about 3 cubic feet. The 2005–2009 models have a trunk of 9.7 cubic feet. The available space drops slightly for the 2010–2014 models, which only have 9.6 cubic feet of cargo space.

That means that fifth-generation Mustang convertibles can only fit one set of golf clubs, and some clever geometry should be utilized at that. After all, getting the driver stuck in the trunk or having it block the entire golf bag won’t be fun for anyone.

Golf Clubs Fit in a Mustang Fourth Generation Ford Mustang (1994–2004) Cargo Space?

The fourth generation of Mustangs brought about a redesigned body that clearly distinguished from the third generation. The third generation was introduced in 1978, so it was a new era for the beloved car.

The coupe model of 1994 had 10.8 cubic feet of trunk space, which was amped up the following year. So, from 1995 to 2004, all Mustang coupe models had 10.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which didn’t change after the {New Edge” redesign in 1999.

Those coupe models will barely fit a single set of golf clubs, but it should generally work just fine.

As for convertible models, the 1994/1995 models had 8.5 cubic feet of trunk space, which isn’t that bad, actually. However, the company shrank the cargo capacity down to 7.7 cubic feet in the 1996–2004 models, a truly odd decision.

This means that the trunk space on third-generation Mustang convertibles probably won’t fit any golf clubs. Oh well, you win some, you lose some!

Should I Get a Mustang If I Like Playing Golf?

The Ford Mustang is one of those cars that has a lot of history behind them. They’ve been in the market since 1964, and there are no signs they’ll stop anytime soon.

That said, searching for practicality isn’t something trivial. If playing golf is part of your routine, a car that helps you get that done will make your life a lot easier.

If a Mustang is what you want, I highly recommend a coupe from the sixth generation, which has a decently spacious trunk and can fit golf club sets with ease. And don’t forget, a lightweight push cart won’t be a hassle to stuff into the trunk like more bulky ones!

Is the Ford Mustang capacious?

The Ford Mustang front seating area is spacious for me. On the other hand, the two rear seats offer limited movement, especially for your legs. Taller passengers would probably experience their knees coming into contact with the back of the front seats.

The more modern, sixth-generation Mustang coupes can easily fit a couple of golf club sets, while the convertibles will take one set comfortably.
